The balance tipped in favor of Argentina in “Vinos de la Cordillera”

10 out of 15 Argentine wines were awarded medals in the sixth edition of this contest. The highest score was granted to “El Gran Enemigo”, from Aleanna winery.

An Argentine wine was the best scored in the sixth edition of the “Vinos de la Cordillera” contest (‘Wines of the Andes Range’), a gathering organized by Enrique Chrabolowsky and held in Chile and Argentina alternatively every year. There, a group of winemakers, journalists, sommeliers and wine amateurs granted 92 points to 2008 El Gran Enemigo, a blend created by Alejandro Vigil and Adriana Catena.

“In this wine tasting, 92 points is equivalent to 97, because as there are 75 tasters, the average is lower. In general, Argentine wines received excellent comments and scores. For the first time, Argentina achieved 5 more medals than Chile,” highlighted Chrabolowsky. Another success for Argentina was to compete with whites and win in Chile, reaching 90 points with AltaVista Torrontés and Bramare Chardonnay.

Moreover, Mariana Martínez, journalist at ‘Planeta Vinos’, who is in charge of the organization in Chile, commented that the previous selection stage is not an easy task. “We look for quality, to win of course under the halo of the healthy competition…”
