The wine and spirits contest “La Mujer Elige” (Women Choose) finished successfully. The international contest is performed every two years and the jury is made up of leading women. The 2010 edition was carried out at The Modern Hotel Mendoza and was sponsored by Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura (National Winemaking Institute), Bodegas de Argentina (Wineries of Argentina), the World Association of Journalist & Writers of Wine and Spirit, as well as several local companies.
Around 540 alcoholic beverages (among white, red, rose and sparkling wines, as well as spirits) from different wineries competed in the international contest and 130 were awarded.

Canadian Janet Dorozynski, in charge of Canadian spirits, wines and beers and general director of World Business opportunities at the International Business Opportunities Center in Canada.
The contest aims to have a direct influence on the wine buying countries, especially United States, Canada, Colombia, Brazil and Uruguay.
The contest
Wines competed in different price segments. Wineries stood out with basic, Premium, Super Premium, Ultra Premium, icon, organic, author and craft wines.
The awarded countries
Argentina was the top of the list with 91 awards, followed by Brazil with 22, Chile with 8, Uruguay and Israel with 7, Bolivia with 5, Portugal with 4, France with 2 and Spain with 1. In total, 26 countries participated and only 10 were awarded.
According to the contest regulations, 17 double gold medals were granted: 15 of them for wines and 2 for spirits. Argentina won 11 of them: 9 of these wines were from Mendoza, 1 from Salta and 1 from La Rioja.
Other countries that achieved double gold medals were Brazil and Uruguay (2 medals each one), as well as Chile and Israel (1 medal).
The contest granted 60 gold and 70 silver medals. Argentina achieved 40 gold and 40 silver medals.
Some of the most awarded Argentinian winemaking regions were: Salta, La Rioja, San Juan, Entre Ríos, and regions of Mendoza such as General Alvear, San Rafael, Uco Valley, Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Central Valley.
