Varietal wine exports increased 6% in the first five months of the year. Malbec keeps being Argentina`s main exported varietal, since in this period it stood for 48.2% of the total bottled wine exports.
Malbec exports grew 39.2% in value (34 million dollars) and 39.5% in volume (972 thousand 9-liter cases). However, Malbec`s average price per case decreased 0.2%.
Then, the second most exported varietal was Cabernet Sauvignon, which increased 9.7% in value and 6% in volume. The average price of this product grew 3.5%.
As regards Chardonnay and Syrah, the value of exports increased 11.8% and 18.1% respectively. The exported volume grew 8.8% in the case of Chardonnay and 11.6% for Syrah. Moreover, the average price per case for both varietals also increased: 9.3% for Chardonnay and 2.8% for Syrah.
Furthermore, generic red wine also increased its exports both in value and volume: its turnover grew 2 million dollars and it exported over 10 thousand cases. In this case, the average price increased 5.8%.
