Increase in bottled wine exports

ws-grfico-90-eng-02In the first five months of the year, bottled wine exports grew 20.3% in turnover, since they increased from 208 million dollars in 2009 to 250 million dollars in 2010. Besides, the exported volume grew 12.6%.

According to the data provided by INV (National Institute of Viticulture), total wine exports fell 9.47% in the period January-May 2010, compared with the same period last year.  This decrease is explained by the collapse of wine in bulk exports, since they dropped around 57.7%. Nevertheless, in the case of bottled wine, there was an increase since exports grew from 81.1 million liters in 2009 to 89.4 million liters in 2010.

Furthermore, varietal wine exports increased 6% in the first five months of the year. In the case of sparkling wine exports, there also was an increase of 8.8%. Nevertheless, wine exports without varietal distinction and other wines, suffered a drop during this period. In the first case, the decrease was 37.1% and in the second one 19.6%.

In May, bottled wine exports increased 5.1% and wine in bulk exports decreased 72.3%. Consequently, total wine exports dropped around 12.1% this month.

Export destinations

According to the data provided by Caucasia Wine Thinking, the main export destination of bottled wine exports keeps being United States. Exports to this country grew USD 16 millions in value and 552 thousand 9-liter cases were exported.

In the case of Canada, there was an important growth in value but exports decreased in volume. Consequently, the average price of exports to this market increased 35.3%.

As regards Brazil, the third market in importance, exports have increased 49.1% in value and 23.5% in volume.

In Netherlands, there was also an increase in bottled wine exports, both in value and volume, and the average price to this destination was USD 0.76 higher per case.

Among Argentina`s five main export destinations, United Kingdom is the only country where exports have decreased both in value and volume. In spite of this, the average price grew 16.7% in this market.
