A group of about 200 public doctors made up of general practitioners, psychologists, nutritionists, gynecologists, and nurses who work in rural medical centers throughout the province of Mendoza are threatening to quit their jobs because they get paid only every three months.Community doctors for the National Minister of Health have been asking since 2009 to be paid every month, their average monthly salary of often times less than 2000 pesos.
The group also maintains that they put in many more hours than an average city public medical professional, because of the vast travel times related to living in rural areas and visiting some patients in their homes.
The low salaries and slow rate of pay has already caused several resignations of positions which are difficult to fill.
Furthermore, the group of medical professionals is also frustrated because the earliest they have been told that their next paycheck will arrive, is on June 15th, when the funds are sent to the province by the national government.
