The year is ending and it is always good to look back and see what were the most important events, and take stock of the year. That is why WineSur selects some of the news that set the way of 2011.
Malbec, the Argentine star. According to data provided by the National Institute of Viticulture (INV), there are 30,000 hectares of Malbec, standing for 14% of vineyards in Argentina. It is still leading the list of the most exported varietals, amounting to 51% of the total varietal wine exports of Argentina. For all these reasons, on April 17, the Malbec World
Day was celebrated.
The total wine exports grew by 9% in FOB value. INV’s figures, up to December 20 2011, revealed that wine exports (in all kinds) amounted to 300 million liters, exceeding by 9% the volume compared to 2010. These sales generated a revenue over USD800 million, standing for a 9% increase.
Bulk wine, the great winner. The total figure reported from January to October 2011 showed a significant boost of exports (84%), reaching 678 million hectoliters.
