Thanks to the protagonist role they played in this year, because they were subjects of news or just because the wine industry picked them, in this article we distinguish them as the “figures” of 2011.

Claudia Quini, engineer at INV (National Institute of Viticulture) and well-known president of the famous international contest “Vinandino”, was nominated by the Agriculture Department of Argentina as candidate to be the president of the International Organization of Vine and Wine (Spanish acronym: OIV). If elected, she will be the first female president in history of this organization.

Alejandro Vigil experienced a successful year working as winemaker for Catena Zapata, as his wines were among the best reviewed of 2011. Besides, he was recognized by consumers thanks to “El Enemigo”, his own wine made together with Adriana Catena. Moreover, he was picked by Cuisine&Vins’ readers as Winemaker of the Year.

Marcelo Pelleriti, Argentinian winemaker working for three chateaux in Pomerol, France, was regarded by critic Robert Parker as the winemaker of one of the 20 wines he likes most in that region. Besides, Pelleriti launched his own wines this year.

Roberto de la Mota, one of the most important winemakers in the wine industry and current winemaker and partner at Mendel Wines, was distinguished by The Wine Advocate as Argentina’s “star winemaker”.
