Flights Resume after Ash Cancellations

On Sunday, flights to major airports in Uruguay and Argentina were suspended due to an ash cloud spewing from the Puyehue volcano in Chile. Authorities shut down Buenos Aires’s Jorge Newbery Airport, while there were also grounded flights at Ezeiza Airport, which is south of the Argentinian capital. Domestic and international services were affected in Argentina, including routes to Ushuaia and Mendoza. Fifteen international flights were cancelled at Carrasco airport in Montevideo, Uruguay.

British Airways said that it had to cancel its daily flight to Bueons Aires from London. Several flights for Lufthansa, American Airlines, Gol and TAM were also cancelled to the capital city. Juan Pablo, the nation’s transport secretary, told journalists that officials were waiting for the ash to pass over before they reopened the airports fo that operations could resume.
