According to local market research firm Evaluecon, prices of household goods and fuel have risen 15% in the first half of 2010, rising hirer than the 10% that the government has forecast for the whole year.Although prices remained fairly stable in April; and May, inflation reared its head again in June. Some of the products most affected are : flour, cheese, sugar, yogurt, milk, bread, chicken, eggs, vegetables, sport clothing, household cleaning items, cigarettes, perfumes, fuel, and rent.

It is noteworthy that, during the first three weeks of June , the Interior Commerce Secretary’s office authorized 26 companies to raise prices to supermarkets with a familiar pattern: 2% to 4% for basic products, 5% to 7% for “middle” products”, and up to 9% for high end products. Similar authorizations were made in the first quarter.
Evaluecon, lead by José Vargas, tracks a typical family basket of items and has determined that a couple with two school-aged children needs $3932 to stay above the poverty line, an increase of 2.1% from May
This basket includes such items as rent, taxes and utilities, food and beverages, clothing, health care and medical expenses, transportation, and public education.
The CPI (Consumer Price Index) was calculated by Evaluecon, to be up 1.8% based on a survey of 500 families, and taking into account 600 products.
