What? 70 fine wines from all over Argentina
Who? 8 experts who will be tasting blind in what is the most honest and unbiased wine tasting in Mendoza.
Wine Republic’s second Annual Wine Tasting will feature fine wines from around Mendoza, Salta and Patagonia, which have been especially selected in a free to enter wine tasting to be judged by an esteemed international panel of eight wine professionals: Ángel Mendoza, Fabricio Portelli, Fanny Polimeni, Cristina Pandolfi, Ernesto Lanusse, Luis Mantegini, Duncan Killiner and David Kingsbury.
The lucky judges will spit and swirl their way through some of Argentina’s finest wines at the Executive Hotel in the city centre. The scores will be released in the following edition of Wine Republic, a free wine and tourism magazine distribute in Mendoza, Buenos Aires and Patagonia.
We are excited to announce for our 2011 tasting we have an esteemed panel of eight professional judges – both internationally and nationally recognised.
Fanny Polimeni
Fanny Polimeni is a well established Argentine wine writer. Currently the Editor of RSVP Magazine, she has also worked across a number of other notable publications including being formerly the Editor at Cuisine et Vins.
Patricio Portelli
Patricio Portelli is a noted Argentinean wine expert and writer. He has judged wine tastings around the world including Decanter World Wine Awards and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. He currently works as editor at El Conocedor wine magazine.
Angel Mendoza
With French ancestry, Angel Mendoza is a well-known winemaker in Argentina praised for his honest approach and respect for wine. He is head wine maker at his family winery Domaine St Diego and has a wealth of experience in all processes of wine making and tasting.
Cristina Pandolfi
A seasoned wine expert with years of judging international wine competitions such as OIV and Vinofed. Currently Cristina Pandolfi is Assistant Director of Technical Statistics and International Subjects at the Instituto Nacional de Vitivinicultura. We are welcoming her back after our 2010 tasting to judge again this year.
David Kingsbury
David Kingsbury, also at judge at last year’s tasting, has an undergraduate degree in Oenology and a master's degree in Wine Business. He was a winemaker with Rosemount Estates in Australian before moving to Bordeaux for eight years where he worked as the head winemaker in two international negotiates. In 2001 David moved to Argentina as a winemaker consultant and is now the CEO of Gransud.
Ernesto Lanusse
A food and wine expert from Buenos Aires, Ernesto Lanusse works for Espacio Dolly in the capital. Bringing years of experience in wine tasting and commentary, he is joining our Wine Republic judging panel for the first time this year.
Duncan Killiner
A winemaker from New Zealand as well as a consultant for Cellar World and co-owner of Manos Negros wines. Duncan has worked in wine for 12 years with clients all over the world but the majority of his time has been spent in the Chilean, Argentine, and Uruguayan industries. He was also a judge in Wine Republic’s 2010 Tasting.
Luis Mantegini
Another returning judge from last year, Luis Mantegini is a professional sommelier based in Mendoza. Currently he works as a consultant for wine tourism companies and has an invaluable knowledge of wines from the region.
