articlenopicLawmakers have sent a bill to congress that imposes fines for companies that use processes to hire employees that include inquiries or requirements related to age, sex, and other social factors such as marital and family status, and family history of diseases.

In Argentina it has always been the norm to include such parameters in classified ads and resumes. A current typical classified advertisements often says something like “Seeking a man between the ages of 22 and 26”

The bill calls for fines that range from 500 to 5000 pesos for companies (and the companies that publish the advertisement) that continue to practice this age-old technique.

Lawmakers refer to a 30-year old law in the USA based on the Discrimination Act, which prohibits using age and other factors to make decisions on hiring, firing, or promoting employees.
