"BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)--MercadoLibre Inc. (MELI), Latin America's leading e-commerce platform, agreed Thursday to offer free access to small and medium-sized companies in Argentina.
The plan, announced by the government in a statement, aims to make local companies more competitive.
"Argentina's competitiveness will be increasingly linked to a high degree of technology," Vice President Amado Boudou said after signing an agreement with the company.
The deal will give smaller companies their own virtual store online, which will "elevate the level of consumption and strengthen the domestic market," Boudou said.
