Economy Minister Amado Boudou announced a 20 percent increase of the income tax floors. The public announcement was made along with the head of the AFIP revenue office head Ricardo Echegaray, and after CGT Labour Confederation leader Hugo Moyano held a meeting with President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner at the Government House.Talking to reporters, the minister stated that the measure "is a great step we are taking to enhance the situation of the workers"
Boudou also mentioned that this government decision represents "an additional boost for the Argentine economy", which is expected to grow five percent this year.
Earlier, the teamster had warned about the income tax floors issue by saying that "people are dubious about it."
Economy Minister Amado Boudou, AFIP head Ricardo Echegaray and several union members were also present at the meeting with the president.
Moyano had also told reporters that "We hope the Government responds. A relevant amount of money is discounted from the workers," Moyano stated.
"A worker is granted his salary due to a great effort, I think it is very unfair to discount part of that money," Moyano justified his view.
Earlier this week, Moyano announced he had contacted President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner to talk on the income tax. He assured: "It's not fair for workers to be receiving the impact of the income tax," Moyano highlighted, while he said that the tax harms "around 1.200.000 workers all over the country."
The salaries that are at a stake are the highest within the Argentine job market. Some union trades, including the Truck Drivers', have reached agreements so as to come closer to this type of salaries, after several negotiation talks which aimed at increasing the salaries' floors.
