Argentina’s grape harvest to rise slightly in 2011

Argentina’s National Viticultural Institute (INV) has announced the country’s grape production is expected to rise by 5% to 27,544,364 quintals (2,75 billion kg) this year, according to Losandes.com.ar.

Guillermo García from the INV said the forecast adjustment did not represent too much change to existing data, as there were no extreme weather events, heat waves or water shortages, the story reported.

The INV forecast production of 18,267,486 quintals (1,826,748,600kg) for the winemaking region of Mendoza, which represents growth of just 1% compared to the 2010 vintage, reported Diario Los Andes.
